Angela Simmons X Virgos Lounge

I love the London-based Nigerian brand, Virgos Lounge. Apparently Angela Simmons does too. Ever since I started stalking the Virgos Lounge website, I always notice Angela Simmons wearing their pieces. Not sure if that is because her stylist Kanayo Ebi is Nigeria or if she just fell in love on her own. Either way, I love it.

This is Angela in Miami recently wearing a Virgos Lounge skirt and crop top.

Black and gold. Glitz and glam. Yes Angela. I approve of this look.  Visit Virgos Lounge, I'm positive you will find something that you like.

Balenciaga Skirts

I am very much a skirt and dress lover. The other day I was just thinking how I'm a little boring in that I stick to pencil skirts, maxi skirts and once in a while an A-line skirt. Balenciaga did skirts in a different and fun way for their Spring 2013. I love the ruffles but my hips DO NOT lie. I could not pull that off. Still pretty though.

Reading Is In Style: Ghana Must Go

In 2005, I read an essay by Taiye Selasi. In this essay she coined the now very popular term afropolitan. I found so many pieces of myself in that essay and so much of what I was feeling that I quickly forwarded it to cousins and friends who would also get it. I was 17 years old, trying to figure out my identity and the term afropolitan captured it so well. The essay is called Bye-Bye BarBar if you are interested.

Anyway, a little bit about Taiye. She was born in London to a Nigerian mother and Ghanian father. She spent her formative years in the United States and currently lives in Rome. Talk about a global citizen. Yale and Oxford educated, former hedge-fund employee and now blessing us with more of her writing. Did I mention that she has a very real relationship with THE Toni Morrison. Yes, dope. I spent a lot of time on youtube listening to her interviews and she has a very charming personality. I'd love to meet her one day. I even bought the book, I'll let you know how it goes.

The synopsis:
Kwaku Sai is dead. A renowned surgeon and failed husband, he succumbs suddenly at dawn outside the home he shares in Ghana with his second wife. The news of Kwaku's death sends a ripple around the world, bringing together the family he abandoned years before. Ghana Must Go is their story.

Pretty Yende in Vogue

This is Pretty Yende in the April issue of Vogue Magazine. That Marni skirt is everything. Absolutely love it.

Pretty (that is her real name) is a South African opera singer and she recently made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera House here in New York and people seem to love her. That is major.

You can read about here in this New York Times article.

Maki Oh Fall 2013

Nigerian designer Amaka Osakwe deserves all the buzz in the world. I first paid attention to Maki Oh during Arise Magazine Fashion Week in March 2012. Just one year later, her popularity has skyrocketed and her brand is garnering a lot of international attention. I love that Maki Oh continues to use the Adire fabric. The finesse of these silhouettes here is second to none.

I absolutely love what Maki Oh has done with the Fall 2013 collection. It speaks for itself, really. I also think this model is PERFECT and then the added detail of the woven mat *dreamy sigh*  Enjoy!

Instagram Chronicles: Face Africa Gala

Instagram: glamgirlZ

This past weekend was the Face Africa 4th Annual Clean Water Gala. After weeks of preparation and conference calls with committee members, it was great to see everything come together so beautifully.

One of the highlights for me was seeing a few people who said they came specifically because they saw my facebook posts and tweets about it! *big smile* All in all it was a wonderful crowd and event, although I was "working" I got to mingle and see some old and new faces.
In the photobooth with a friend.

Big shout out to Saran Kaba Jones who is the founder of FACE Africa. Saran started Face Africa in 2009 with no seed funding. Now Face Africa has completed 20 clean water and sanitation projects in Liberia which have transformed close to 10,000 lives. How awesome is that? Two years ago, I read about her and decided that I HAD to meet her. I met her soon afterwards and I continue to be in awe of her and her fight to combat the global water crisis. Saran is a class act, so down to earth and passionate and you hear that from everyone. She has received many accolades for her accomplishments and most recently she was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. I can attest to the fact that this is all well deserved. I am honored to know Saran :)

Zuhair Murad A/W 2013

Zuhair Murad has quietly become a designer that you cannot ignore. His Autumn/Winter 2013 collection was gorgeous as usual, but I was surprised to find this floral print amongst the looks. Even though some say floral is not appropriate for the Fall, I like this print. It has a muted quality to it that works. What do you think?

Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2013 RTW

It has been almost two weeks since Dolce & Gabbana presented their exquisite Fall 2013 ready to wear collection in Milan, but I am still obsessing. The first image I saw was this gorgeous look at the finale. The sea of red lace and gems, intricate and gaudy at the same time. I was in love. Then I started to see everything else, the religious imagery, the embroidery not to mention the tweed suits, I even found myself loving the kitten heels as part of the look. If this is the Sicily that Dorothy's mother in Golden Girls always talked about then take me there! All in all, I was very impressed. My favorite detail was the crowns, which I know were for theatric effect but how awesome would it be if someone wore one of the looks straight of the runway with the crown?

Here are a few of the looks, you can view the entire collection here.

Danai Gurira x More Magazine

Danai in a BluMarine silk dress

I know this is my second Danai Gurira post in three days, but she is definitely my girl crush of the moment so bear with me. I have to credit my blogger friend Makho, for blogging about Danai a few months ago and putting her on my radar. For those who do not know, Danai plays Michonne on AMC's hit television series The Walking Dead. I have heard good things about the show and at this rate I may start watching just to see Danai :)

I love everything about this editorial. Kudos to More Magazine. The styling is great; she is wears Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, Bottega Veneta, Herve Leger, Jimmy Choo and many others. Her skin is gorgeous, the prints and the crystal clear water and sunshine *dreamy sigh*.  Spring is on its way.
