White-Out Trend

Sarah Diouf. Editor, Ghubar Magazine
White is trending this summer. White on white, white shoes. I've always loved white, although every time I say it is my favorite color someone is quick to say, "white is not a color." Whatever it is, I like it. Nothing like a crisp white T-shirt or blouse to complete a summer look. The other stuff may take some getting used to because white can can be so unflattering. Nevertheless, I'm on a quest for some great white pants this season. I'll keep you updated.

Project X

For over a year, I had been trying to figure out what exactly I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it. I have so many competing interests, it was hard to decide which direction to take and how to make it all work. Then it came to me last December. Ever since that day, not a single day has gone by without me thinking about how to bring this idea to life.
I often get frustrated when I feel like things are moving too slowly or not moving at all, but then I remember this is a long term thing, I have to cultivate the idea and do it right. Anyway, this is what the fun part of my week has looked like. The not so fun part has been researching and learning about aspects of an industry I do not know.

I can definitively say creating new things gives me an indescribable high. #NewRules

Tuesday

"Welcome to the Jungle"

After seeing a post about the Victoria Falls Safari Club as part of Sir Nige's #VisitZimbabwe series, I found myself wishing I had a safari planned in the near future. It has been a while since I went on one. So this post is all about gorgeous safari locations.

Nothing will make you say, "Look at God" faster than a beautiful sunset or sunrise somewhere out in the wild. Looking out at the landscape and seeing the animals in their natural habitat is truly a sight to behold. If you ever have the chance, go on a safari!

Lookbook: Tom Boy

I strayed from my usual girly looks and went with something a little different.

Instagram Chronicles

1. Fresh flowers on my desk and one of my favorite books and one of my fav books. It is filled with many of Nelson Mandela's famous speeches/writings and awesome pictures. If you do not know, Nelson Mandela is my ultimate hero. I am a stan.

2. As part of my #WatchTheTone campaign to work out more, I have taken to running on outdoor trails. When I first started it was horrid but it is getting better and the surroundings are nice.

3. I have listened to this mixtape every single day, over and over, for the past week. TeeZee is a member of DRB LasGidi, a rap group from London/Lagos. Check out his mixtape Fresh Prince of LasGidi

4. In addition to exercising more, I am trying to eat healthier. Which means more greens, less empty calories, and no less than three meals per day. I've never been a fan of extreme dieting or counting calories. I do not think that is any way to live but I am taking changing my eating habits seriously and so far, so good.

5. New York city.....There is no place like it. I first discovered this beautiful view when I had my birthday at Skyroom last year and I'm always happy to go back for it. *cue Kanye's All of the Lights.*

Wishlist: Azzedine Alaia

Azzedine Alaia sure knows how to make a shoe. These suede babies are gorgeous... the circle detail is what I love the most.

Zara makes the world go round.

I love what Zara has become in the past few years. There is no way I can walk into a Zara store and not find at least 10 things that I *think* I need. Part of their summer collection which includes lots of white and florals. Always trendy.

Tuesday

Diana Princess of Wales.

I had the most dramatic reaction to Princess Diana's death. I loved this woman like I knew her. She was a real life Princess, what could be cooler than that to the 9-year old me? She was always dressed impeccably and she seemed so warm. She was a vision. A beautiful, elegant, and warm hearted vision. May she continue to Rest in Peace.

Naomi Watts looks amazing in this trailer. I think she is going to do Princess Di justice. The biopic premieres on September 5, in London (duh!).

Rihanna X Stella McCartney

How is it possible for one woman to look this good? Rihanna always manages to look amazing. The sequin/hologram look of the shirt is gorgeous. Well done, Stella McCartney. The shoes and clutch are also Stella McCartney.  Now where do I find something that looks like that in real life?

Monday

Makeup Monday: Rocking Red Lips

I love red lips. Red lips are classic, elegant, and versatile. When you were younger you may have been told you that red lips are for  "women of loose morals" or whatever other urban legends are out there about red lips. Forget all that! I must admit, I used to think red lips were too much and too bright for someone with my skin tone but when it seemed that a red lip was the tried and true complement to every look, I had to get involved. Now, I love a good red lip. It's an easy way to add a little pizzazz to your look.

If you are not ready to take the plunge, play around with red lip gloss or lip stain and see if you warm up to it. Here are a few tips I have for wearing a red lip.

1. Play around with different shades to see what you like best. Mac Ruby Woo (which I do not own) is apparently a classic matte Red that works on anyone.
2.  Keep the rest of your makeup very natural. If you are going to do a red lip, it is not the time for that purple smoky eye that you've always wanted to try.
3. Red lipstick tends to bleed, line your lips if you can find a matching red lip pencil or another option is to put concealer around the edges of your lips.
4. Check that you do not have any on your teeth. Hello, Miss Geist.
5. Give us a good pout!

ASOS Africa Summer '13

I'm a bit disappointed with their Summer Range. What do you think?

One of my favorite brands, Virgos Lounge, partnered with UK-based textile designer, Banke Kuku. I love this print and, as usual, I love the silhouettes by Virgos Lounge. The combination is simply gorgeous.

Banke Kuku is a brand that specializes in textiles for interior design( sofas, cushions and other quality furniture) and for fashion.

Bonang Matheba x Revlon SA

I love Bonang Matheba! Mainly because I've watched her RISE. It is amazing to see people constantly work and build their brand and then all of a sudden, there is no competition. This is exactly what Bonang Matheba has done on the South African entertainment scene. She has become that television and radio personality who people are always talking about but also brands cannot get enough of. You have to respect her hustle. Revlon South Africa recently named Bonang their first ever 'Brand Ambassador' and unveiled this huge billboard. Gorgeous!

Thursday

Vanessa Mdee

MTV Base VJ. Vanessa Mdee released a video for her song, Closer. I never knew she could sing but I'm enjoying this fun mix of english and Swahili. The video is cute.

Feature Alert!

I'm excited to be featured on Zimbabwean radio personality, Lo's website as part of her "You Ought to Know" series. Shout out to Zimbabweans around the world, my people always show so much love.  Check it out ---> www.lochnation.com

Claire Sulmers, THE actual Fashion Bomb

Claire Sulmers is the founder of urban fashionista website, The Fashion Bomb Daily. The Harvard educated (talk about beauty and brains) fashion journalist is yet another blonde that I am obsessed with.  As I mentioned before, I have a thing for blondes. I'm not sure if they have more fun but they DEFINITELY are so uber stylish. Something about the platinum plunge changes people (Hello, Miley Cyrus). I have always loved Claire's style but these platinum blonde locks GIVE ME LIFE. They really add something to all her looks.

Be sure to visit The Fashion Bomb and Claire's Tumblr for more fabulous pictures.
